I played tennis from 8th grade through college. Well, partially through college; I eventually lost interest, which led to a loss in skill. I played for fun here and there for the first few years out of school. The last time I remember playing tennis and really enjoying it was at friendly round-robin with some friends in Maumee in August, 2007--I think I came in second place. After that, I became pretty sedentary. Last summer, I decided that I had sat for far too long. After being out of the country for a month, I returned the first week of July and decided then that I'd run. A month later, I ran a 5K. Then in November, I ran my first half-marathon. Before the new year, I registered to run my first marathon. Now I can't wait for the next.
In December 2015 I started training for my first Boston Marathon and I wanted to be at my highest level of physical fitness. This Pure Barre thing was about to show up in Toledo in January 2016 and on a whim I decided to try it. Two years later, I've taken hundreds of classes and have taught even more. This workout changed who I am as a human and what I am as an athlete. I drink the Kool-Aid and do my best to force it on anyone else. Cross-training is huge for runners. Find what you love and do it--I did.
